Don’t Be in a Hurry

The rain is falling this morning.
It’s one of those slow, steady rains that makes the tin roof come alive. The sound has a way of slowing my thoughts and reminding me that not everything has to happen right now.

As I sat listening this morning, my mind wandered back to Wednesday night.

During church, we talked about 3 doors mentioned in Scripture.
One that especially stood out was Jesus’ words in Revelation 3:20:
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock…” (KJV)

What an amazing picture.
The Lord doesn’t force His way in. He calls. He invites. He desires fellowship with those who hear His voice and open the door.

After church, on my way home, I joined my weekly online Porch Believers Bible Study with Solomon’s Porch Church in Texas.

That evening, we studied God’s blueprint for our lives. One of the lessons that stayed with me was the importance of being patient, praying, and waiting on God’s timing before acting.

If I’m being honest, I’ve gotten ahead of God before.

I’ve been excited about an idea, convinced I knew what the Lord wanted, and rushed ahead before spending enough time praying about it.

Looking back, I realize that sometimes my greatest mistake wasn’t doing the wrong thing…

It was doing the right thing at the wrong time.
The older I get, the more I’m learning that hearing from the Lord isn’t about acting as quickly as possible.

It’s about being willing to slow down.

To pray.

To search His Word.

To ask for wisdom.

To wait.

The Bible tells us,
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

Stillness isn’t inactivity.

It’s trust.

God’s voice will never contradict His Word. His leading produces obedience, not confusion. His timing is always better than my impatience.

So when I believe the Lord is leading me, my first response should be prayer instead of haste.

Because if it’s truly from Him, it will still be true after I’ve spent time seeking Him.
The rain is still falling as I finish writing these thoughts.

Maybe that’s a reminder for me today.

Not every answer comes in the first few minutes.

Sometimes God does some of His best work
while we’re quietly waiting beneath the sound of a tin roof.
