The rain is finally falling.
After a full day of preparing, working outside, setting everything up, cooking, laughing, cleaning, and packing everything away… I’m finally able to sit down under the tin roof and relax.
Today was a good day.
We celebrated our little man’s third birthday.
The backyard was full of smiles, laughter, and happy chaos. The bounce house, the giant slide, and the foam machine kept the kids busy for hours. Looking around at family and friends enjoying themselves reminded me how thankful I am for simple days like these.
Now the yard is quiet again.
The decorations are put away.
The toys have been picked up.
The only sound I hear is the rain gently tapping on the tin roof.
As I sat here reflecting on the day, one thought kept coming back to me.
Our little guy has only been with us for about four months.
Yet in that short time, he’s brought so much life back into our home.
The laughter.
The hugs.
The little footsteps running through the house.
The joy of hearing someone call for MiMi and Bebe.
I don’t know that I realized how much our home missed those things until God brought him into our lives.
It reminded me of something.
Some kids need a home…
…but some homes just need a kid.
What a blessing he has been to us.
You know, God’s blessings don’t always arrive in the packages we expect.
Sometimes they come wrapped in answered prayers.
Sometimes through difficult seasons that later reveal God’s goodness.
And sometimes…
They come with tiny shoes by the front door, sticky fingerprints on the table, and a little voice calling your name.
Take a moment today to thank God for the blessings He’s placed in your life.
I have a feeling there are some you’ve become so accustomed to that you’ve forgotten they were gifts.
Today reminded me of one.
And I’m thankful.
Until the rain falls again…
Grace and peace,
A Porch Believer
